Hi guys. Not sure if this is the right area to post this in, but I hope so!!

Just got a quote from the stealers, MOT and service 656.84£
Right before my holiday, I am wounded

Service is a full service, Gimli has just turned/turning 4
Service is for:

Oil and filter change
Pollen filter change
Coolant change
Brake fluid change
Spark plug change

This to me sounds awfully expensive, I don't really know many garages around the Northampton area which I'd trust with my car.
Can any one help whether that's an acceptable price for the works? Or recommend a garage close-ish that's trustworthy and will use genuine parts.
Only reason I'm tempted with the Renault dealership is that the car is still in warranty(extended)

Paul

That's what I thought...

They can't even justify labour costs that high because once it's ramped up surely you'd have it done in no time?
I don't get how a full service and MOT is £199 but for sparks, coolant and brake fluid they can charge an extra £450???

Labour

Engine oil & filter Renew : 0,50 hours (£27)
Spark plugs R & I : 0,30 hours (£45)
Coolant/antifreeze D & R : 1,20 hours (£108)
Hydraulic system Bleed : 1,10 (£99)
Cabin filter R & I : 0,20 (£18)

Cost of parts @ Renault -

Spark Plugs - £34.48
Brake Fluid - £28.23
Coolant - £36.04
Engine Oil - £31.39
Engine Filter - £11.32

= £141.46 in parts & Sundries

Total Cost @ £90 p/h labour : £438.46
+ Vat @ 20% = £526.15

not meaning to be cheeky, but if you live by the sword then you die by the sword. that certainly seems like a correct quote to me judging by the dealership rates, prices are calculate in this instance through each additional job you specify on top of the service. this is the same anywhere in any garage, the only difference here is the huge mark up's in parts prices + the triple rate labour in the dealership compared to what you'd expect to pay from a respected local garage @£30 or so per hour and double that of a 'renault specialist' at around £50 per hour. take into account that a first year apprentice or second year apprentice will be doing everything on your £600 bill - then i'll leave it to you to justify the ''but it's renault, i'm clearly in the hands of a pro!'' arguement lol :p
