MP3 via USB

So I am excited about having gadgets in my car that I never had before via the stereo.

I am finding though that simply loading a USB stick with Mp3s doesn't work. Can you tell me what the best format is? Does it not like a certain bitrate or compression etc?

I put on a 3 CD album last night. All same format and it is only playing a few songs. Could it be to do with the length of the song name?
