My 133's due it's 6 year service which means cambelt. It's only done 32,000 but the service book says 72,000 or 6 years whichever comes first.

Just rang my local Renault service agent and they quoted me for the full/major 6 year service and cambelt change is £1334 inc vat, yes that's £1334!!!!! Told me it was an engine out job to replace the cambelt. 9.5 workshop hours to complete.

After picking myself up of the floor and umming and arring they dropped the price to £1150 inc vat which still seems something akin to daylight robbery - strange how you can drop almost £200 straight away, why not quote that to begin with?

Anyhow has anyone else been quoted the same and told it was an engine out job and does anyone know a decent garage in East Lancashire I could try for an alternative quote?

Thanks for looking.

Can't help you find a decent garage in your area however majority of people are quoted several hundred less than that for cambelt/service... Usually 600-700.

I've recently changed the cambet on mine and can assure you it is not an engine out job. It would probably be easier with the engine out due to the limited space but I managed just find on the driveway in well under 9.5 hours...

Cheers for that.

Had a quick search on the net and found a Renault independent specialist nearby who'll carry out a 6 year service, mot, cambelt and water pump all in for £800. The local Renault dealer wanted an additional £300 on top for the water pump.

I thought an "engine out" sounded a bit drastic, the independant said no mention of that. This will be where the main dealer will be making their money in the additional labour charges.

I'll keep searching and see if I can find any cheaper but £800 sounds ok to me.

Cheers.

My 6 year old 133 cup has only done 20,000 miles but I was strongly advised to change the cam belt as it could cost anything up to £2,500 to put right if the belt snapped or slipped.
I was quoted £520 for a full six year cam belt service, to include replacement water pump, pulley's and a new de-fazer gear. (It had sudenly become very noisy on start up). I ended up also having the rear brake discs, pads and wheel barings replaced as well as the front brake pads and a front off side wheel baring changed. They also saved me 300 quid when they welded up a split seam on the exhaust middle section that had been blowing for weeks. the total cost for all this work came to a very reasonable £1,000 including VAT. So yes, I think you can do better than £1,334 for a cam belt service.
The garage that did the work for me are based in Doncaster. I can can give you their details if you don't live too far away.

Cheers for that but Doncaster's a bit too far. I'm booked in at a specialist 10mile up the road, £800 is a bit dearer than you paid but i'll stand it.

I got my big service done for £700 through a Renault dealer down in Suffolk for the 5 year and waterpump service, but originally the others I tried were in the £1300 bracket!! bloody rip off. They did an excellent job, but the mechanic who did it said he would prefer to drop the engine if he had to do another one, his hands were covered in cuts and bruises after it... and he said it would be quicker and easier.

Can you advise which dealer this was? Thanks

Got all mine done at harrats pontefract, £750 for the lot dephaser, cambelt kit, water pump, coolant and aux belt + tensioner & no it's not an engine out job did mine on about 6-7 hours can recommend the Ponty dealership in West Yorkshire.

mine cost be about £700 including a full service at a renault specialist i wouldnt bother going to renault mine was at birchdown well known specialists

Yep, c£650 for mine by an independent Renault specialist (Rentec, Edinburgh). More importantly I actually trust these guys to do a good job whereas the local "Renault" dealerships in Scotland are all Arnold Clark franchises and notoriously rubbish,
