Hi everyone, I've got a twingo GT 58 plate. my cars under warrenty. Was hearing some strange noises from the gear box. So took it to Halfords for them to give it a check over. They claim it is the gearbox but not major so sending me to a gear box specialist however they said one of the coils have gone on my suspension. But they think it's already been lowered on some after market coils so are having trouble getting a match. I thought the twingo GT comes lowered as standard but I thought Halfords would have known this??? Any advice on what coils I should suggest to them or say to Halfords?? They have rang the warrenty company and they are willing to pay for it. Just Halfords don't seem to have a clue what they are doing with it??

Halfords don't know anything sadly... Both the shop, and their auto centres.

Do you know if the springs themselves are coloured? As in are they red/yellow/black/blue?

It's good practise to replace suspension components in pairs anyway, so they should be fitting two new front springs however as they are Halfords, and are claiming from a warranty company the chances of them agreeing to that are somewhere between slim and non-existent sadly.

If you run into any further problems tell Halfords to contact your local Renault main dealer with your chassis number or registration and they will be able to tell you what springs it should have as standard. Standard springs will be black. After market springs will be coloured (generally) or at least have writing on them saying the make and usually the drop they give.

sorry about the above comment, it stopped letting me comment and delete things.

Anyways thanks for your reply! is there anychance you could tell me where to look to see the suspention springs??? i have read that i need to get both of them changed, so even if i have to pay its probably worth it anyways! The man told me to sorce my own parts on ebay, when i dont have a clue what im looking for and find it quite unprofessional! and he didnt even realise that the GT's come low as standard... anyways probably just gonna go and see my local garage if i've gotta get it done would rather have it that way than pay loads for halfords to do it. I didnt have to pay there fee of getting it checked which is good i guess too!

If the car is under warranty this should be covered... Although I'm guessing it's a used car warranty?

These springs are for the GT model, and will lower it 25mm over standard if that is what your looking for... Fitting will be the same as standard springs and this is for a set of 4:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Eibach-Pro-Kit-25mm-Lowering-Springs-Renault-Twingo-1-2-16v-1-2-TCe-03-07-/251608323599?hash=item3a9506560f:g:TzMAAOxy0x1TVl4d

If however your looking for standard springs, these are what you need (listing is for one front spring, so if you want two just order two of them, they also have rears on their ebay page too):
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fit-with-RENAULT-TWINGO-Front-Coil-Spring-27250-/322019682280?fits=Model%3ATwingo&hash=item4af9de67e8:g:ukwAAOSwPc9W0DL3

Fitting isn't hard for any garage, for the fronts you just remove the scuttle panel and rain tray etc and then its just the same as any other car pretty much. Rears are literally a 5 minute job each side so don't let them rob you for labour charges if your paying yourself.

If you need any more help just give me a message or reply on here :)

Still having a night mare with halfords, they were really snotty with me saying that its basically a night mare and they shouldnt really have to do it, but they are still gonna do it?? They found the parts but refused to buy them and told me that i have to buy them (£128) and they will claim labour from the warrenty to fit them. However i took it in twice and they told me they were gonna look at the springs, they didnt do it on both times i dropped it off and wasted my time! All they know is the springs are red and aftermarket???? So I'm gonna take it to a garage my family have used in the past to get them to do it, even if i have to pay! However to add to my nightmare i dont have the locking key for my alloys so will have to get that sorted out before anyone can change them! I hope my twingo expeirence improves sometime soon! haha!

Thanks for your help though!

Hopefully it does!

Locking wheel nut keys can be obtained from Renault, or any decent wheel place will have a tool to remove your standard one (then you'll need to buy a new set with a new key).

If the springs are red, then yes they're aftermarket ones. So you'll be best off buying a full new set as the chances of being able to obtain one spring to match what is on the car will be too much hassle. There's plenty of cheap lowering springs on ebay brand new for your model, just pick one of them that's in the UK.
