just picked up my 133 today and i love it,however there are a few things which are concerning and i need help with.

Firstly theres like a ticking noise everytime i let off the accelerator which is very worrying. im not sure if its just me or is this something which has happened to other 133s or is that just how the engine runs?

Secondly a battery light comes on every so often and a light on the dash tells me to stop. this goes away after 10 seconds or so and then comes back at random times.

Thirdly, there is a knocking sound coming the front left region and it knocks everytime the wheel rotates. the alloy doesnt look cracked but does anyone know what this might be.

ive also snapped the dipstick and was wondering of the dipstick for the 133 is the same as regular twingos orwhere could i get a replacement.

the check engine light is also showing, could i please get any help regarding any of the problems and some suggestions to what i should do and not do. I love the car but im having thoughts of just giving up on it but i really dont want to!! thanks

I don't know about any of those problems, what I will say is a plug in diagnostic machine will tell you what triggered those lights to come on.

Ha yes I know the feeling lol! Sorry your haveing a few problems with your twingo I've had similar problems. First and foremost you need a new dip stick I did the same unlucky for me half of mines in the sump somewhere! You'll have to order from dealer mine was around a tenner at the time but think they've gone up, there different to other twingos unless u can get one from a scrapers. The check engine could be low on oil so that's your top priority! The battery light could be a dodgy alternater not changeing your battery. The knock from the wheel sounds like the famous ball joint rubber perishing, if not that wheel bearing, top mount or inner tie rod could be many things driveshaft comes to mind too. The ticking noise when you let off the gas sounds similar to mine though I can only hear it when the bonnet is open and I'm outside the car this hasn't caused any problems for me since owning the car could be the design of the vvt system or your throttle bottle body opening and closing. Hope this helps a little any more questions I'll do my best to help

Can anyone else relate to the ticking after giving it a bit of throttle? Any replies would be amazing!

Is it a quick tick or a prolonged one? I have the 1.2 16v but I get the tick noise. Had the car over a year and nothings ever come of it...

Ticking after throttle might just be normal tappet noise or low oil level. Or maybe coming from the dephaser or belt tensioner, need to get a friend to rev it while listening under the bonnet. Where are you located?

Im in nottinghamshire mate, but it all makes sense now! Had a proper look under the car today and noticed it was leaking oil which is probably also the reason the check engine light is on. Also the tube which the dipstick goes in wasnt connected to the oil pan and there was room for oil to escape so ive now sorted that, just need to get a small clamp or something to keep it in place as well as a new dipstick to check the oil level and add oil. The other route i could go is to just drain the oil completely then add however much it needs and that way ive done a fresh oil change and i know that it actually has oil in!! Still not sure on the battery problem but the knocking noise was the wheel not being on tight. the guy before me took the wheel off and only hand tightened the nuts so ive now sorted that out. thanks for the help guys!!

Its quite a quick tick tbh, gets faster the more revs i put on but its not there all the time

Glad you've solved a couple of your problems, I wouldn't worry too much about the ticking if there's no dash warning or it's affecting how the car drives. Could be dephaser or belts but I had my belts and dephaser changed as per 70,000 and that's not cured it though it did cure my squeaky aux belt tensioner

Its booked in for a proper mot and i get the dipstick tomorrow aswell! 22 quid from renault for a stick! Also getting it diagnosed so that should help with a few things

Get the oil drained and refilled too, it's cheap and worth it. New filter costs around £8 from Renault. Oil is 5w40 and again the Renault stuff is good and cheap. It'll take a fraction under 5 litres.

Right. had it diagnosed andits come back with an alternator problem, apparently its running too many volts so that could be the battery light problem.

The car has had a new cam sensor but that hasnt solved anything and im told that the ticking is the vvt and it needs replacing along with the belts etc so if anyone is selling a vvt system then message me.

the guy also found metal shavings near the cambelt and says he wants to open it up and look inside to see the condition but thats more money into the car and part of me just wants to give up!

Any ideas what he ment bye changeing the vvt system dephaser for e.g. Are the belts due yet maybe once there done it may solve the problem but at the same time you don't want to be throwing money at it if it's not needed. What year and mileage is your car what's the service history like my advice ignore the ticking noise for now cure what ever is causing the battery light to stay on and give it a good service plugs, oil, airfilter if do this anyway with any new car I'd get so I know it's been done & done properly if your handy with a spanner no reason why you can't do it yourself too to save a few notes.

the guy said he wanted to replace the whole lot including belts. Its a 59 plate and has done 67000 miles. i didnt get any paperwork on the car but the previous owner appears to have bought it and tried to fix it but seen it might cost him a bit and flogged and ive not seen these problms and bought the car.

Definitely get the belts, tensioner, water pump and dephaser replaced. It's a complete service pack and is due on your car. Spend £800 at Renault or £650 at an independent specialist. You need this done I'm afraid.

Yes your belts are overdue now even if you haven't hit 70,000 miles. I hope when you bought the car the price reflected in that all this work needed doing cos it'll cost you a pay packet! Well it did for me anyway. I paid £750 for the lot now it's good for another 70,000 or six years if you don't get the work done you'll risk haveing a higher bill if the belt snaps when the pistons bend your valves & you'd need new belts on top of the engine rebuild anyway.
